Book 1 in a Steampunk Fantasy Trilogy
This fantasy adventure is set in a Steampunk Oxford, where life may never be the same again. Ignatius and Indigo are agents for the Union Jacks, a secret organisation whose role is to protect the British Empire, which is at the height of its powers, and help in its technological advances. They have discovered the existence of the mystical Book of Consciousness written by the creator of the cosmos, the genderless Omnisoul. The book is the history of everything that is, that has been and that will be. The agents are aided by Skye, who accidentally calls forth seven merciless immortals called the Charon. Known as the Beautiful and the Damned, the Charon are the Infernal Dukes of Hell, created to carry out the will of the Omnisoul. But they are tired of their immortality and want to end their existence. Elsewhere, the sorcerer Ragnar of Roc has conjured a hole in spacetime, allowing the draconic Elder God Calabi Ya to re-enter the cosmos from the Ghost Worlds. He is as old as the Omnisoul and wants the book to learn his destiny. The two Union Jacks leave Oxford and are taken on a journey across the cosmos in the great ship Taraka, which sails through space and time. Ignatius and Indigo are mere pawns in the cosmic ocean of fate, carried to fabled places, witness to bloody massacres, and half-willing conspirators in the Charon’s plot to thwart the Omnisoul’s plan and defeat the protectors of the Well at the Centre of Time.
Timeslayers is a complex, spiritually rich exploration of time, consciousness, and existence. Through the lens of Ignatius and Indigo’s relationship, the book portrays the merging of science and mysticism, grounding metaphysical truths in narrative and character. Drawing deeply from Vedic philosophy and quantum theories, it proposes that awakening to the layered nature of reality is both a personal and universal journey. This story challenges linear conceptions of time, presenting it as layered or fractal-like ‘timeslivers’, where past, present, and future can be accessed and interacted with.
This fantasy story integrates elements of quantum mechanics, such as entanglement and probability collapse, with spiritual dimensions, suggesting parallel realities and multiple layers of existence. Time is depicted as both subjective and objective, influenced by consciousness and intention. This is an intriguing start to a cosmic saga battling gods in a Steampunk world.
Timeslayers Reviews
“With its blend of myth, philosophy, and vivid storytelling, Timeslayers has secured its place as one of the most unique fantasy novels of recent years. The book’s award and recognition are proof of its impact, but its real strength lies in how it makes readers think beyond its pages”
Timeslayers Review 1
“Timeslayers succeeds because it never limits itself to one genre. It is part fantasy epic, with cursed bloodlines, mystical books, and apocalyptic beings. It is also part sci-fi tale, with automata, airships, and the fear of machines gaining minds of their own”
Timeslayers Review 2
“By focusing on this mysterious tome, Colin Sephton delivers more than fantasy—he offers a timeless lesson. Books can awaken worlds, but they can also unleash shadows. Timeslayers reminds us that the search for ultimate truth may not lead to light but to the very darkness we hope to escape”
